The source, not the summary
Specifications, dated prices and documented owner complaints, each with the source attached.
Read the letterWhy we started
The Pet Docket reviews smart pet hardware for people who live with it. We started because the genre has a problem: the pages that rank highest are the pages that read the most like advertising, and the people they persuade are exactly the people who end up with a machine that jams, will not pair, or breaks in month nine.
A 3,000-word review that ends in "buy it" tells you nothing you could not get from the star rating. What actually decides whether a self-cleaning litter box works in your house is a short list of facts: the waste bin volume, the radio band, the entry height, the warranty length, and what owners complain about after month three. We publish those facts, with the source, and then get out of the way.
The Pet Docket is published by a small editorial team with access to the retailer and manufacturer catalogues, the manufacturer support documentation, and the published owner review record. We do not publish anonymous or unverifiable authorship: every page carries a named editorial contact and a documented method that says exactly where each class of information comes from.
We are not veterinarians and we do not give medical advice. Where a page touches on health signals, such as the urinary monitoring some litter boxes advertise, we report what the manufacturer claims and what the published literature says, and we point you at a vet for anything that concerns your own animal.
By affiliate commission on some links, and by nothing else. No advertising network, no sponsored placement, no paid reviews. The full terms are on the disclosure page, including the actual commission structure of each programme we use.
We correct errors and we say we did. If a specification is wrong, the page is updated and the observation date moves with it. If we got a fact wrong and a reader caught it, the correction is recorded rather than quietly patched.

Today, and what comes next
What we are today
A sourced dataset of 17 products across two categories, each record carrying the URL we read it from and the date we read it, plus a filterable tool, a documented method, and a machine-readable API.
What we are becoming
A bench. When the lab is running, first-party measurements join the dataset and are clearly labelled as ours, with the test method, the date and the units attached: noise in decibels, jam rate per hundred cycles, cleaning time per month, consumable cost per year.
What the dataset holds
17 products, one JSON document, a date on every value.
Every record carries the same 34 to 37 fields, including the ones with a null value, so a consumer can tell "not published" apart from "zero". The whole dataset is one request away, and every figure in it carries the page it came from.
What the site is becoming
When the bench is running, first-party measurements join the dataset, clearly marked as ours, with the method, the date and the units attached.
